Aeroplanes were developed to move people and goods quickly from point to point. Massive modern airliners carrying 400 or more people and tonnes of freight are as essential to society as any other basic utility. The modern world cannot be imagined without them. There is a rich history from the days of the pioneering nascent routes in small primitive passenger aircraft, through the style and luxury of classics like the Lockheed Electra 10A, Junkers JU52 and latterly the majestic Lockheed Super Constellation. Even big seaplanes like the PBY-5 Catalina or Dornier DO24 were used to transport people and cargo across the globe.
